The location of the new school is precious thanks to its situation at the core of the Ovalie neighborhood: it is surrounded by the remarkable wooden spaces of the Clos de l’Herminiers and by the large pines of the water castle siding the Paul Valery avenue. Its ZAC conception makes it completely utilize this environment by mainly connecting it with “soft modes”, which allows for a rather exceptional arrangement for a public equipment of this nature. Indeed, we received the opportunity of designing a building in agreement with a major public space on its main facade and create a true synergy between the building and its immediate environment. For a school, the epitome of a citizen location, melting pot of conviviality, dynamism, and openness, this dialogue built between assembly and public space is essential.

The boarding house project is a continuation of Philippe Lamour high school: then its design takes into account the logical organization of the existing facilities and must ensure consistency and overall harmony. The area where the building fits, places the project as a figurehead of this big island, position both strategic and symbolic: the facilities plays a special role because it has to be the link between the exterior and the interior. Shared by several schools of Nîmes and physically attached to Philippe Lamour high school, its reception, conviviality and reference character must be emphasized. The precise location of the project reflects this link between public space and high school territory.

One of the major advantages of this project, in spite of being in the old city center, is that it benefits from a highly privileged situation: it is part of an extraordinary greenery patch and sat on a location promoting a great exposure and view.

The project, located in a french seaside town Canet en Roussillon, takes place near an existing college. In this very flat landscape, its vocation of signal is given by its important dimensions which assert his role of public equipment. The nearness of the sea forced the architect to use resistant materials like galvanized steel and Douglas pine. The first volume is the the sporting hall; its dimensions are approved by the main sports federations. The second one, built in concrete, bases the equipment along the canal wich contains locker rooms and secondary premises.
