The project focuses on a building located at the corner of the block, which was the site of a previous demolition of an old 2-story building formerly used for housing. The building is an integral part of the urban fabric within the city walls of Lagos, opposite the Church of S. Sebastião.

On a sunny hillside overlooking the bay Lagos, in Portugal, Casa Libre faces inwards, towards the privacy of its patio, but is also open to the south, where the view becomes lost in the immense sea. With a clean, square design, the house, on a single floor, in exposed concrete, originates from this patio and then opens out toward the horizon. The weight of concrete coexists with the lightness of a loose canopy and the transparency of the glazed surfaces.

The house was built from scratch on the degraded space of a vehicle workshop. A new building appears behind a really massive, powerful wall that is more than a meter thick, guarding the memories of successive occupations and that now plays the role facing onto the street. The wall provides ancestral tranquility for the patio house, a common design in the surrounding area because of the long Moorish occupation.

“Lux mare” means "light of the sea" and the name was chosen because of the light that the ocean, which extends as far as the eye can see, reflects.

Villa Pernoi is situated on a large plot, facing east and south. The view becomes immersed in the intense green of the surrounding area, in the wide sweeping bay of Lagos and in the changing tides of the Alvor estuary. The client’s specifications, the topography, and the extensive views needed an organic design to take advantage of the different points of interest, of the scale of the surroundings and the connection with the place where the house is built.

Casa Carrara has, in a less obvious way, a certain sculptural character that is present in both Casa Colunata and Casa Elíptica, where the curved and dynamic forms are treated like a volume sculpted from a rough block that has been brought to life. In Casa Carrara, more angular and longer forms are sculpted in a parallelepiped where, without losing their origin, full and empty spaces coexist as living areas. To be noted is the terrace, more than thirty meters long, which functions as an embellishment or a pinnacle – but one that is paradoxically horizontal - the finishing element in an architectural ensemble.
