A Place That Keeps On Supporting Creativity - The project is a relocation of the headquarters of a game production company based in Tokyo. It aims to become a place for the highest level of creation that captivates fans worldwide and supports the foundation of the game production process. As almost all employees engage exclusively in creative operation, we focused mainly on providing a balance between concentration and relaxation while significantly removing the burden of operational work. We strived to achieve them by introducing slanted walls that characterize the exterior and a system with tablets to control all facilities, including security.

The project site is located in the town of Pakse, Laos, on an estate overlooking the Mekong River. It is one of the three huge buildings of classical European style, which had been designed and built a few years ago by a Thai architect as the residence for a certain family. The subject building was for the daughter of the family, our client, who requested that we provide the interior design for her residence. She wished for a contemporary and simple motif in contrast with the exterior.

In converting this nondescript, three-story steel building--a former noodle factory sitting among old warehouses in downtown Tokyo--we began by grounding our inspiration on the idea of the "forest" (or "bosco" in Italian). As a result, we made subtle and playful interventions of various scales and materiality, ranging from one of the building to that of the wood grain.

The client's family owns this land in this residential district over a hundred years. Their successive houses have always been a major scenery, attractive in this town. When the client decided to replace the last house made of wood with a new apartment building made of reinforced concrete structures, the client naturally hoped it be a design which would contribute to the townscape as same as the design of the previous houses had done on this site. The previous houses shared an unceasing inspiration and developed a tradition of using red bricks for the boundary walls and having a beautiful Japanese garden. We decided to continue the tradition and contribute our work to the history of the site.
