The “Green Heart” Of City. Nature Flows Into Commercial Space. The Suzhou River Park allocates a valuable ground floor area to public space, even weakening the entrance to the sunken commercial area to enhance the perception of the site as a public space. Carefully selected and arranged, different types of plants are found above ground and below ground. Even within the underground commercial area, every available space is utilized to the fullest extent possible in order to enhance the greenery.

The challenge facing Waterline Park is its unappealing nature: a long narrow gutter surrounded by residential housing blocks. Despite its lack of visual appeal, it is still a precious public space available to residents. The landscape seeks to transform this uninviting space into an engaging public area for community use and gathering. The design approach focuses on activating the site by introducing water, creating a myriad of water features that change this site into an enjoyable public space for residents to engage in community activities. The goal is to bring new life and vitality to the area, strengthen social cohesion, and create an inclusive community space that fosters a sense of belonging for all residents.

Bridge life Neighborhood park
The Bridgelife Neighborhood is a vibrant public space amenity at the junction of three districts, namely Baoshan, Hongkou and Yangpu District in Shanghai. It was an abandoned Japanese thermal bottle factory named Nissho with more than 20 years of history. The once-popular and extraordinary factory site has become quiet and abnormal, showing signs of decline. We hope to create a "connected bridge" for the district to fully utilize the functions of public communities while protecting historical elements and senses. We retrofit a great number of community features and variable urban space into the venue. The landscape function of the Bridgelife is not singular, but an adaptable place that can be transformed according to changes in users and time. The key idea is to protect this historical heritage with minimized renewal but make it to a park that offers distinct, multi-dimensional experiences. It aims to create a new community center that integrates commercial, cultural, creative, and sports uses through the transformation of old industrial plants.

China's Kunyu Mountain National Park is promoting a series of facility upgrades within its 50 km2 national natural preserve, and the management committee invited Lab D+H to design a pilot public toilet which would serve as the new model of public facility in the KM National Park. At the very beginning, client had not decided where the toilet would be located. Therefore, instead of proposing a restroom design, we put forward a modular system which can be adapted based on different topographic conditions. This site-specific strategy was greatly appreciated by the client and together, we chose a site: a terrace within the current alpine botanical garden at the edge of the forest.
