So many wasted spaces in our cities, meaningless corners or underutilized areas that are left forgotten. As urban beings, we believe that cities are grand stages that must be reconfigured to foster quality of life and leverage immediate resources, promoting integration into existing infrastructure. This project confirms our belief that architecture must be accessible to everyone. Every space can be transformed: a warehouse, an abandoned area, an orphaned room, or spaces we never even imagined existed.

Adapting to the existing city - Cities are constantly growing; new neighborhoods and suburbs are spreading across the territory. Citizens have to travel further and further to reach their workplace. New constructions require significant energy expenditure and even generate many pollutants. The most timely and coherent approach is to inhabit what already exists, even to invest a lower cost.

We are at the summit of the Quilotoa Lagoon, a volcanic crater with turquoise water at 3,915 meters above sea level. The indigenous community of Shalalá promotes sustainable tourism in symbiosis with nature, valuing and magnifying it. They have a wooden viewpoint (built-in 2013) that enhances the experience with the lagoon, along with tourist infrastructure, and now a crafts center that, through its circular form, seeks to offer the same opportunity for each stall. With its cobblestone central plaza, it becomes a space that fosters gatherings and celebrations.

The original house is a simple construction in the rural area of Perucho (35 km from Quito), with a block wall structure initially designed as a warehouse. Little by little it has been inhabited, patched, and fixed, when necessary, for which, a complete rehabilitation was needed to realize the potential of the space.

Ilalò, the sacred mountain. This project invites us to reflect on the land, understand the place where it is located, and formulate hypotheses on how architecture should be accomplished in an Andean terrain. The initial question was: how should the constructions be realized on the sacred mountain of Ilaló? We understand that the intervention must be as respectful as possible, understanding its rurality, recognizing its fragility; the slopes of the mountain must be considered, the materials must have a language with the environment, human waste must be considered, and therefore treated. The project is in a small canyon between two arms on the slope of Ilaló, the land adjoins a creek, so you can access this hidden treasure, guardian of the essence of the mountain.

This is a project of a basic quotidian approach - to renew the roof of the house due to its severe deterioration and its potential danger. For us, this reason has been a great opportunity for transformation, to contribute to the quality of life of the occupants of the house. We understood that in addition to changing the roof, we could modify the spaces that are peripherally located and linked to the roof.
