Domus Peepem is the latest in a series of interventions that, through new housing schemes and the regeneration of public space, aims to recover a portion of the urban fabric. It is located in Cancun, one of the most important tourist centers in the country, with marked socioeconomic contrasts. The central idea of these interventions has been to build sustainable buildings, with a social vocation, integrating instead of distancing.

Huachinango 36 is a project located in the center of the city of Cancún, on the Mexican Caribbean. This project responds to the city’s re-densification plan, brought about by populational growth and degradation through which its inhabitants have moved to the outskirts, leaving behind an urban layout rich in green spaces, generous lots, and defined vehicular routes.

Unlike many of the Mexican cities that began as colonial settlements, the city of Escárcega was established in the early twentieth century as a settlement for exploiting gum, rubber, and logwood. One of its camps, named ‘Kilómetro 47,’ gave it its origin, but it was the engineer Francisco Escárcega Márquez who gave it its name. With the intention of expanding the railroad from Veracruz to the Yucatán peninsula, Escárcega was responsible for connecting what would become Ferrosur, the railroad of the southeast, by land. It was not until the year 1990 that the Escárcega communal farmland became a municipality and what, today, is a city of the state of Campeche. This city currently has a population of approximately 32,000, and its strength lies in its privileged geographic location: the city works as a hub that connects Villahermosa, Tabasco (and its Connecting routes into the state of Veracruz); Chetumal, Quintana Roo to the east; and Mérida, Yucatán to the north.

Casa Risch is located on a corner lot within a controlled access residential neighborhood. It is a house for a family of five in which most of the expectations of its future inhabitants were integrated while respecting the guidelines of the residential complex. At the same time, a strategy was proposed to control the cost and time of construction.

It has never been a secret that, beginning with the industrial revolution, cities experienced an unprecedented growth. People, driven by better life opportunities, left the countryside and ventured to live life in cities that were growing frantically at the pace of progress. During and after World War II, Mexico¾which is a country with a large rural area¾experienced similar growth. Large buildings were built, major housing projects were promoted, cities were created ex novo, public policies promoting the growth of cities were approved and, without realizing it, we entered fully into modernity. Mexico ceased to be rural to become metropolitan, concentrating almost 80% of its population in the cities (according to data from the 2010 census of INEGI).
