The client had been living in this house for a long time and wished for a new living experience, so for this renovation project, we have maintained the original structural frame but demolished the existing walls and stairs to create new circulation and repartition of the rooms.

This is another of our small urban house projects - the width of the property is 6.5 meters whereas the depth is only 2.5 meters. “There were challenges in designing the functional program of the house on such a small lot, in consideration of the clients’ desire of building a dream house for their children,” noted Huynh Anh Tuan, lead architect of the project and founder of Khuon Studio. “We were happy to accompany the clients in realizing a living space as comforting as possible.”

Double Roof House / Khuon Studio

Double Roof House is located on a long lot of 4x17 square meters. The house is set back from the street to make place for a front yard, about 5 meters in length, which includes a drink stall – the family’s small business. There are only 3 members in the client’s family so the floor area is not too large. As natural ventilation instead of air conditioning is of priority to the client, a double roof system of corrugated panel is utilized, as it is light yet provides excellent insulation.

Vy Anh House is conceived as a retreat where the client can enjoy their own peace after a busy working day. This idea leads to a louver system that completely covers the façade, except for an emergency exit door in the front. Though armored on the outside, the house features a lively atrium filled with sun-kissed, lush greenery.

In the beginning, our team was intrigued by the peculiar site of this house, which is formed by two small lots joined by a juncture of over one meter in width. This bridge acts as an important connection of living spaces in the residence.

18 House is located in a calm dead-end alley in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, owned by a young couple with a kid. The plot is a relatively small rectangle of 18 sqm which had challenged the architect to bring out the best of this limited area to provide the clients with a qualitative living space. This was also the only design brief we had received upon starting the project. Therefore, we approached the design with a goal to strike a balance between utilizing the space to its fullest and interpreting the creative freedom that we had been given.
