GLOBAL FLORA reimagines how the design of a sustainable greenhouse can enhance global interdisciplinary science education and deepen a public understanding of nature. The Global Flora botanical facility expands the 1920 vision of Dr. Margaret Ferguson who argued for plant biology as a central part of science education and encouraged students to “listen to” plants and learn through hands-on interdisciplinary experiences.

The new Institute of Data Science at the University of Rochester is the signature focus of the University of Rochester’s Strategic Plan to foreground information technology in a new educational model for cross-disciplinary research and innovation. Designed to LEED Silver standards, the 61,000 square foot building program includes smart classrooms and faculty offices, robotics, science, computation and environmental labs, a 160-seat auditorium and the Goergen Institute, a new public resource for information technology.

East 34th St Ferry Terminal / Kennedy & Violich Architecture

The East 34th St Ferry Terminal is a multi-modal public transit hub that strengthens the City’s sustainable waterfront transportation system and encourages public use of the waterfront. This public project was commissioned by the NYC EDC, the NYC DOT, and the Parks Department and approved with five NYC Community Boards along the East River. The project has received a Progressive Architecture Award, Design Excellence Award from the New York City Art Commission, and a Design Award from the New York Institute of Architects.

Tozzer Anthropology Building / Kennedy & Violich Architecture

The new Tozzer Anthropology Building is a 35,000 square foot transformation of an existing library building which houses faculty and graduate student offices, a library, classroom and seminar spaces, and provides accessibility to an adjacent museum complex. The building is located at the end Divinity Avenue across the Street from Divinity Hall and in the middle of University Museum, a large courtyard building made up of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology and the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Both buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places.
