The required space, including administrative areas, press center, conference rooms, athletes’ accommodation, and state-of-the-art sports facilities, is arranged below a single long-span roof around the individual sports fields and exterior space.

The two-storey new build is located next to a green area on the inner-city grounds of the Beiersdorf AG in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel. The extremely compact rectangular structure is arranged around a central, two-storey multi-purpose room, which functions as a play area and gathering space. The inspiration for the design came from the history of the Beiersdorf AG in that the kindergarten resembles an abstract version of an apothecary cabinet. Featuring a shelf-like structure, the facade caters for a variety of functions and requirements and, at the same time, creates a light and transparent atmosphere indoors. The large window formats provide perfect conditions for play and educational work.

The public area that rises between the buildings forms an urban crossing for the senior citizens with the town citizens. The private garden (the “hortus conclusos”) provides the senior citizens with a variety of outdoor activities and, if necessary, constant supervision by the nursing staff.

Loft L is located in the south of Aachen within a mixed context of detached 1-3 story dwellings and single-family homes. The building extension consists of prefabricated timber framework elements placed on top of an existing house from the late 50s. The specific shape was generated according to zoning constraints existing on site. The extension has generated additional living space, a “parent floor” for a young pair with two children. The project and its construction was featured on local TV, and with its unique shape, selection of materials, and the new “view” created, the building can be seen as a role model for similar rooftop extensions.
