This plaza provides a space for pause amid the high volume of vehicular traffic in the area, particularly along Camino Real Avenue. It detaches from the sidewalk level to create a square sunken plaza at -3.75 meters, measuring 32 meters on each side. Due to the presence of an existing pit on the site, the void was almost entirely backfilled and compacted in 25-centimeter layers. The anchors of the slurry walls were removed as the fill level rose. To avoid the use of retaining walls for the sunken plaza, four sloped earthen embankments were used to contain the lateral planes, descending on each side toward the square sunken plaza while strictly adhering to a maximum slope angle of 35 degrees. In this way, the interior space of the plaza is perceptually sheltered from the surrounding streets by elevated gardens that simultaneously serve as retaining slopes.
