The Hoefsevonder estate is a new nature reserve of almost 6 hectares with room for two houses of which we designed one. The rural house on the southern plot is optimally located in the sun, adjacent to the new nature reserve with wet grasslands, flower meadows, and forest plots, and has an open view of the farm landscape. The plot is bordered by wooded banks and a wide ditch where deer pass and roam in the evening.

Since 1995, an industrial area west of the railroad that runs through ‘s-Hertogenbosch is being redeveloped into a new premium residential quarter. An occasional industrial relic, like the saw-tooth complex, has been included in the development plan. Winning the architects selection in 2016, led to the design for a residential building on the smallest plot in the quarter. The 1050 m2 plot on the intersection of the Bordeslaan and the Vijverlaan is tucked away behind the saw-tooth complex, and next to the six-meter-high bridge made of Corten steel that crosses the railways to connect the quarter with the historic city centre. To the west, a new hotel will shield the residential area from the railway.

Traditionally, most farmhouses in the Meierij of ’s Hertogenbosch, a former administrative realm or bailiwick, have their separate parts such as living quarters, storage space and cowsheds integrated into a single building. Over time, however, these compact buildings frequently became too cramped to house all of these functions and a separate barn was added. These were usually built from locally available materials and largely followed the structural pattern of the farmhouses themselves.

A site in a pine forest with a height difference of six meters is unique in the Netherlands. The clients are aware of that and asked us to design a ‘living’ house which fully adopts the qualities of the plot. They cite three icons as a reference, each with their own qualities. De scenic naturalness of F.L. Wright, the openness of Mies van der Rohe and the tactile materiality of Zumthor. With a sense of necessary modesty we accepted the assignment.

Huize Vreeburg in Rosmalen is a building with a rich history and recognizable located on the corner of a major road through the village. It has in the past, among other things, served as a post office and in recent years was used as a residence. Sonder Jansen, an international importer, exporter and producer of frozen fruit and vegetables, acquired the property because of its distinctive appearance and wanted to establish his headquarters here. The villa is fully restored and treatedwith respect to the austere appearance of the villa. The villa houses a conference room, executive offices and the canteen and on the first floor offers space for an apartment where foreign guests of this international trade office can stay. A new staircase provides the necessary grandeur in the interior. The old villa as the new face of the company.

In the Algarve, the south of Portugal, the transition from the coast to the hilly midlands is characterized by an ascending landscape. Historical agricultural structures, such as vineyards and orchards form an idyllic setting. We designed a holiday home for a Dutch principal on one of these typical plots with an old citrus- and olive orchard. The main focus point of the design are the life outdoors, the sun, the fantastic view over the ocean and the gathering around family and friends.
