The city of Seoul is in the process of creating a public space for local community to use in the area by utilizing the lower space of the overpass, which is relatively unusable in cities with insufficient space. This project is a pilot project, and it is a project to improve the living environment and urban landscape of the region by changing the underpass, which was shadowy and desolate, a lively and vibrant environment.

Nature is created by the providence of nature itself. The innate ability to expand in size to take in as much sunlight as possible, the nature of splitting up and penetrating into the earth to absorb even a tiny drop of water, and the vertical impetus to go against gravity and soar perpendicularly; as such, nature endeavors to create the optimal forms and arrangements based on the instinctive energy for survival. To this end, nature finds its own beautiful order, and grows according to the optimal proportion, size, and geometric principles between symmetry and asymmetry, between balance and imbalance.

The site of Hotel Doban is located in the middle of the village, Byeonsan-ri, deeply in Baekbyonbong Mountain looking down the South Han River and the downtown of Yangpyeong. All sides around the terraced landscape, which are surrounded by the ridge led from Baekbyonbong, enclose a quiet retreat like a folding screen. The end of the ridge and the earth of the terraced slope open far toward the South Han River and Yangpyeong city, such as standing on the mountain observatory, to provide a resting place overlooking the complicated everyday lives.
