Studio House KSG / Hernández Silva Arquitectos

The project departs from two main elements: the site and its users. The construction is located in an old colony inside Guadalajara where irregular landscapes among different levels ocurre to form small canyons which dominate the area. The ground has a rectangular form where the street is located in front and a canyon is located towards the back where a huge tree is placed one level below the street. The house was designed to achieve two main uses: a studio and a home; it was very carefully planned as the users have Japanese roots so its customs were considered and respected.

The house is located in a conventional land inside a gated community, west of Guadalajara’s metropolitan area. Is has a north orientation towards the street and south on the back, leaving a free area on the side facing west.

The terrain is a flat and raised platform, the house is positioned on a north-south axis generating an extraordinary view towards the west, where almost all views are directed to. On the front there is a steep street, allowing the entries on two different levels: the main level, where the social area of the house is located and the other in the basement, for cars and services. The third level contains the private areas of the house.

The house is located on a gated community in Zapopan, México. The main entrance is accessible through a roundabout with an old laurel.

The house is located in a private neighborhood outside the city, the land is flat and located in a corner, with neighbors to the south and east side, the west contains a large line of trees that separates the house from the street and takes a turn into the north where both entrances lie: one pedestrian and another one for cars, there are two bodies floating, the one on the left is a large box covered in gray stone that levitates over the street opening a gap where the cars are stored, the second body is transparent and light, larger and higher, which shows the pedestrian entrance, it is a volume of windows to the north and west sheltered by a white steel lattice, obeying the relationship with the sun, as this orientation is extremely hard in the city.

The house is located in one of the oldest residential colonies in Guadalajara, it is almost the only sheered area of a city that is mostly leveled, and this allows the place to receive good winds and to accomplish a great view from the second level at the nor-west of the city. The irregular shape of the space generates a sharp corner surrounded by the great foliage of trees that are already located on the sidewalk.
