House B - T - two-family house for a comfortable old age - A house to live in for the rest of their lives, was the explicit request of the clients. Moreover, they loved the concrete architecture of Brutalist architect Juliaan Lampens. The result of their assignment is an aesthetic two-family house in which brutal materials are delicately combined with a particularly fine finish.

The Ghent-based architectural duo Basile Graux and Koen Baeyens were given full creative freedom by homeowners Marieke (surname) and Rob Stockman. Around three years ago, the couple was captivated by a large, beautiful garden near Ghent. Despite a typical 1980s bungalow standing on the plot, their focus was immediately drawn to the expansive 1,400 m² garden, a rare find so close to the city center. The bungalow itself became secondary in their decision.

Timeless renovation of a villa in hacienda style. When it comes to the makeover of a villa in neo-hacienda style, the classic concept never becomes modern unless very drastic interventions are made. Something that was not an option for the architects in this renovation of a house with a veterinary practice, given the emotional value that the clients clearly still attached to the home where he grew up in.

House D - S ‒ New construction opens up a view of the surroundings. If you looked carefully, from the lot, you could see no fewer than three beautiful long-distance views of the surrounding rolling fields. However, the pastoral beauty was often hidden by the obstacles inherent to the (dis)order of a natural accumulation of buildings. The basic concept for the new building was therefore to reveal the panorama to its fullest by consciously framing it in a series of unique frames. In this way, an aesthetic added value arose from the need to provide an answer to the contextual limitations.

House C-VL – an original take on a bungalow renovation. In renovating this 1960s-era bungalow, certain areas in the house were kept undefined. This left a lot of room for the personal interpretation of the residents, so that the house came to life very spontaneously. Three squares. A living space that could be doubled at maximum, a deep, narrow lot and an uninspiring original construction: those were the raw ingredients for the renovation of this bungalow.

House C - DF ‒ townhouse connects with outdoor space and gets bicycle workshop. The renovation of this classical home on an enclosed plot on the Visserij in Ghent brought once again a logical flow indoors, provided a better connection with the outdoor space, and – despite major technical challenges – integrated the bicycle workshop that the client wanted so badly. A touch of cinematography. While the main residence required few modifications, tabula rasa was created with the old extension of the house.

On the street side you will find the family home, flanked on the left by a narrow brick garage. The site is characterized by organically grown buildings that vary greatly in terms of materials and finish.
Office Solvas is a newly constructed office building in the center of Zomergem, Belgium, in the immediate vicinity of the church and adjacent square. Within this specific context the design challenge was to integrate a three-story building (with two office-floors and one level for apartments) on a lot between two buildings with a completely different typology. The left building is one story high with a flat roof, the right one has two floors and a pitched roof.
