The project, Cross House, is located in the medieval district of Patershol, Ghent. Typical to these medieval districts, the shape and outline of the plot is an outcome of centuries of aggregative and non-formal expansion of initial settlements. Thereby, there is not a coherent typological logic inherent within the plot’s context. The plot is bound on two sides with adjacent low-rise residential buildings. With one side next to an old medieval-era wall, protected by heritage, with strong historical value. The last face of the plot is open to an inner courtyard that is collectively shared and owned with the other residents of the courtyard.
