The existing apartment and commercial building dating from 1900 was part of a protected building ensemble situated in the city center. The task was to converse in this building. During an extensive analysis of said building’s structure, planners determined that the historical structure was in a poor state.

This new three-storey building with attic was created in the garden city neighbourhood of Aarau. The house comprises seven small apartments. The polygonal building results from the plot form and forms the link between the adjacent multi-family and single-family homes. The apartments are accessed via a compact staircase. The floor plans are structured by wet cell boxes, cabinet and kitchen fixtures.

The family home including a built-in apartment stands at a prominent position and generates a landmark for the beginning of the village. The surrounding buildings all come in different style and appearance, therefore laying the grounds to go for an independent language of architecture.
