The extraordinary site is situated in the Volcanoes National Park in the northwest of Rwanda and borders the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. Home to five volcanoes and covered in rainforest and alpine bamboo forests, it is best known as the natural habitat for the critically endangered mountain gorilla.

The restoration of the Old Granary in Buitenkant Street, Cape Town has recently been successfully completed by GAPP Architects and Urban Designers for the City of Cape Town. The future use of the building as a museum, archives and offices for The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation is considered highly appropriate, given historic associations of the Old Granary.

In 2013, an architectural design competition was held by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for the establishment of two newSouth African universities – Sol Plaatje University (SPU) in Kimberley, and the University of Mpumalanga (UMP)in Mbombela. As one of the four architectural firms selected for the first phase of development of UMP, GAPP Architects & Urban Designers were tasked with the design of a new student residence building including student union facilities, a Health and Wellness centre and a Multipurpose Hall.
