As the premise for the project of this single-family dwelling, there is an evident need to integrate it into a special landscape and environmental setting, where the presence of nature and the development of the territory plays a dominant role in defining the visual frameworks and directly influence the architectural approach. The close dialogue with the surroundings is explored here, taking advantage of the unique and diversified panoramic views over the bay and city of Lagos, the town and ria of Alvor, and also over the Odiáxere mountain range.

In the dense pine forest next to Praia das Maçãs (Apple Beach) the house hovers over the landscape.
We opt for a single volume with two distinct faces: a more closed one and another more exuberant and exposed. It marks the entrance in the blind elevation by a ramp that gently transports us to the interior of the house that in an unexpected way merges with the outside. The theme of being indoor and out, both inside and outside, is intrinsic in the atmosphere intended for a seasonal dwelling like this: all the spaces of the house have autonomous access from the outside. Thus, all the environments set up a strong relation with the pinewood, the patio arises from this will and serves as a hinge between social and private area. In the room the space continuity is greater: two large planes of glass that run one over the other and open alternately to the porch. The few materials of the house create a unique atmosphere, the pavement inside and outside is the same - cement stroked - ensuring the unification of spaces.

The herdade of the Freixo, with about 300ha, and 26ha of vineyard, presents itself as a typical Alentejo landscape, undulating, diversified and with interesting points of view on the surroundings. Punctuated by clusters of wild olive trees, olive trees and holm oak, it still concentrates in one of its elevations a mount, identified by typically rural constructions that define it.

It’s all about a project for a summer home, as a result of an order that from the beginning had precise conditions in terms of program: a big living room, connected to an office area; a service area with space for light meals attached to the kitchen; a private area with two small bedrooms and a suite with an incorporated sauna; a garage with an incorporated workshop space; a swimming pool with a big solarium; well illuminated interior spaces opened over the landscape; Formal soberness and a contained budget were also demanded.

The design was based on a constant modulus whose multiplication regrou the size and position of the openings of the compartments. The shape follows the parallelepiped will close on the house itself, visually extending the interior space to outer space contained. Are assumed, so the patios as an extension housing; strategic views are open to the surrounding natural terrain, taking advantage of the abundant vegetation and the irregularity of the rock.

This house is located on Aroeira’s estate, near the main lake of the Golf Course. The placing and the volume’s disposition of the “Lake House” result from the conjugation between the distance to the adjacent lots and the existing grove. It was wanted a house which could comprise the autonomy of different spaces – social/private, day/night – with the creation of a big terrace near the pool.

The houses are located within a residential neighborhood of Estoril, in one of the main arteries that connects to the seacoast line. The site is an exiguous lot and mainly longitudinal, with an accentuated slope. The focus of the project was to keep the pre-existant garages while creating two single-family houses that are independent of each other yet facilitate communication between spaces.
