The new office building for 'De Watergroep' in the Koning Boudewijnstraat, near St. Peter's Station, consists of a four-story main building and a meeting hub at the back of the site. The complex stands on an underground parking area. Within the urban context, this project provides for maximum but elegant densification. The concept of the facade starts from a thorough reading of the street elevation that responds to the horizontal layering and vertical articulation of the houses in the surroundings.

The old campus at Sint Pietersstation in Ghent stretched between Koning Boudewijnstraat and Koning Albertlaan and consisted of a sequence of several buildings (with two facades and two views) on the street and three smaller buildings in the courtyard. The whole did not show its semi-public programme to the neighbourhood in any way. In addition, the campus' existing buildings formed an unorganised whole, both structurally and architecturally. Over the years, various interventions and renovations distorted and warped this cluster of buildings, resulting in a lack of functional coherence, interaction, and legibility. Maximum efforts were initially made to preserve the existing infrastructure: the old archives cellar was transformed into a bicycle shed and made accessible from the street, and the three existing rear volumes were stripped and renovated in their entirety according to BEN principles. Despite their robust structure, the existing main volumes were not compatible with contemporary comfort requirements and were replaced by a new volume in wood construction. By building with wood, the carbon footprint of the new building is significantly reduced, a very conscious choice by the client and the design team.

The project “Waterzicht” is part of this new master plan called “De 4 Fonteinen.” It is right on the canal with a view of the 50-hectare De Drie Fonteinen Park on the other side, which dates back to the late eighteenth century and is one of Belgium’s oldest landscaped parks. It was designed as an English landscape garden and creates a romantic atmosphere with its old trees. The project borders a very fragmented and rugged hinterland on the eastern side. Here some powerful, transformed industrial buildings are situated, on the one hand, and a large working-class area with small terraced houses, on the other. In addition, the small river Senne flows here, which is completely channeled within dam walls. Its banks were replanted as part of the redevelopment above the walls. In the south, the picture is completed by the ring road of Brussels, visible from afar, which crosses the canal at a distance of about 300 meters with the impressive 1,700-meter-long and 35-meter-high Vilvoorde viaduct.

The renovation of the AG Campus is an ambitious and sustainable project in the center of Brussels. It introduces light, air, and space. Throughout the renovation, materials were chosen as sustainably as possible, and maximum effort was made to preserve and reuse materials from the existing building. The roof of the new extension was implemented entirely as a green roof and additional green spaces were added in the garden, adding in total more than 1500m2 of green spaces in the heart of Brussels.

Zuiderzicht is one of the eight high-rise volumes positioned at diverse spots within the master plan by Studio Associates Secchi-Viganò for Antwerp Nieuw Zuid. The project’s position is strategic: while close to the river and within green public spaces designed by Bas Smets, you are only 3 minutes away from Antwerp's center. With its bright colour and open appearance, the Zuiderzicht tower fits with Antwerp's tradition of white, layered, tectonic high-rises such as the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe Cathedral, the art deco style KBC-tower and the Police tower, and others.

Originally, the school was a mashup between rather invisible outbuildings and supplementary wings resulting in a labyrinth of rooms, some even without daylight. The new organization on-site will only keep the main building central on the plot. With this design, we thrive for an open and communicative unity connecting both the site itself as well as the direct urban surroundings.
