The project consists of a weekend house for a family of three, in a gated community north of the province of Buenos Aires. The layout of the community proposes a natural environment around a series of artificial lagoons, suggesting a very close relationship with suburban utopias common to other latitudes. The house is actually one of the first buildings in the area. The lack of contextual references such as a natural landscape or existing buildings led us to focus on the relationship between the empty lot, its buildable area and the gentle slope towards the lagoon, and to adopt projecting mechanisms similar to those of architectures who propose less direct dialogues with their immediate surroundings.

The project should include a house-studio program for a photographer and his couple, in a private development in the province of Buenos Aires. The land belonged to an old property whose landscaping was designed by the renowned landscape architect Carlos Thays around 1940. On the lot, seven Himalayan cedars, that should be conserved, occupied the middle of the permitted buildable area.

Surroundings

On the Uruguayan bank of the “Río de la Plata” you will find a quiet beach and coastal settlement known as Balneario Zagarzazú; located 7km from the small town of Carmelo. Despite having an international airport and being close by to a gated community and a prestigious five star hotel; It´s infrastructure and general environment is that of an isolated enclave for relaxation and enjoyment for local families. Retaining these characteristics has been of key importance to the people of Balneario Zagarzazú. By maintaining its unique identity, this settlement has more to offer than just another potential tourist spot.

The project is located on a corner lot in a traditional Country Club in Pilar in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Despite the uniformity that these kinds of lots usually present, both regarding the physical characteristics, the landscape, and the area, a part from the corner position, the plot presents some peculiarities relevant enough to act as detonating to the main design. On one hand it is placed by the edge of the Club, and thereby has a double, 2.5 meter high fence completely filled by vegetation in the best orientation sun wise. On the other hand, across the road we find a public square, one of the few existing in the club apart from the general areas reserved for sports and leisure.

The project consists of a single family suburban house placed within a corner plot in a traditional Country Club in the Pilar area, Buenos Aires, Argentina. With a surface area of 1100 sqm, the site forms part of a new extension of the Club, resulting in an almost inexistent urban context, deprived of both neighboring houses and grown vegetation. The only significant influence surrounding the plot is the adjacent par three golf course. The plot is completely flat and there is no physical limit between the golf course and its northeastern border, resulting in a magnificent view which also coincides with the best sun orientation.
