In the middle of a landscape where nature claims its prominence, an architectural project rises meeting not only the needs of its inhabitant but also engaging in a serene and contemplative dialogue with its surroundings. The land, with its majestic Parota tree standing as a sentinel, becomes the canvas where architecture draws spaces that go beyond the ordinary to become spaces where life is fully lived. The architectural solution stems from a clear premise: to open the views towards nature, allowing the interior spaces to be filled with light and life. Thus, the project adopts a linear plan that unfolds key spaces in a fluid sequence, where the interior and exterior intertwine in a dance of light and shadow.

The entrance to Casa Akama is preceded by the presence of an imposing tree. Its scale, age, and the way it stands tall force visitors to look up and pause. To one side, the first bodies of water reflect the light and the movement of the branches, hinting at what will recur further ahead: water appears at key moments, marking pauses and creating a sense of calm along the path.

The location and terrain of Casa Neró are the prevailing premises for its construction and design. The site gifted the project a spectacular landscape: the Colima Volcano and the Nevado de Colima. Casa Amankay reveals itself with calm. Stone steps ascend through the vegetation, marking the rhythm of arrival. The surroundings invite a slow progression. Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo, one of Colima’s most beloved and internationally renowned artists, lived for most of his life in the hacienda that anchors the small village of Nogueras. The hacienda, originally established for sugar production in the early 1700s, was acquired by his family in the 1940s and remains a beautiful landmark of the community to this day. Espacio Kaab, which looks out over a corner of the hacienda, honors this venue and its craftsmanship, as well as that of the artist who occupied it. The design of Espacio Kaab exists in dialogue with the hacienda, directing views towards the property as a poetic gesture to honor its location, along with more concrete reflections of its influence, including the use of rescue techniques and materials that were originally used in the hacienda complex. As one enters the property, the natural environment immediately enchants the visitor, creating moments of quiet wonder; it is marked by dry, arid vegetation, cacti, stones, and earth that makes one feel as if in a bubble that both embraces and contrasts with the rest of the region’s colorful floral exuberance. Within and surrounding the property are primavera trees, parotas, tamarind trees, and a magnificent view of the La Barragana river that all serve to welcome you into the characteristic sub-tropical climate of the region.

Casa Mao set the standard to achieve a perfect balance of contrasts. As you walk through the house, you experience a discreet and subjective dialogue in the middle of elements that oppose and at the same time generate an impeccable compound between them. The characteristics of an open corner lot led the emplacement of the house to be partially closed to the outside granting the users with privacy and protecting the construction from its orientation to the sun. This initiative allowed the project to open itself to the interior and the heart of the house, where the main views are directed to the rich jungle vegetation that surrounds the context. Parotas, palms, and the chosen materiality incite the sensation of freshness within a warm sub-humid climate such as the one in the city, Colima.

Built in Colima, under a tropical-humid climate; It was decided to take advantage of the opportunity to design a project that could be lived and opened completely to the outside. The emplacement was rooted in a “U” formed plan to praise a characteristic yellow-flowered Primavera tree and other Parotas that accompanied it. Therefore, the architectural program could be developed facilitating the privacy of the house and its views; allowing the creation of their own environment and embracing the key components: the trees, the pool and the inner courtyard.

Facing nature and framed by a vast vegetation of primaveras, parotas and papelillos, a terrain with two clearly marked axes that open in a trapezoid-shaped way, is displayed. With 12 meters on the front and an opening for up to 50 meters in the back, the proposal should solve the complexity of the lot, which arises the concept that projected Casa Kaleth. The design exposes a discreet front facade. In it, the variety of proposed and perfectly combined textures start to show up. A concrete “L” is placed and opposed over a permeable wood and crystal entrance, followed by a solid stone volume. The designed language in the back facade was directed to the contrary, where the answer was an invasion that collided with imposing and geometric bodies, which channel the user’s view to the landscape, creating a “telescope” effect in the phenomenology that is experienced when touring the house.

Entreparotas house is a project which allows its users to live in a constant relation with nature, therefore the premise of choosing a site that would enhance the relevance of the existing flora and a small stream that passes through the terrain. A tropical vegetation, where the parotas and fig trees stand out, generates a jungle atmosphere that made the design concept possible.
