The buildings are scaled down to be in grain with the surrounding local houses, alternating and surrounded by lushness of trees, and arranged in clusters with variation of positioning, in and out with various building heights.

The best natural attribute of the site is hidden down below - it is China’s finest geothermal underground water. As the heated water is brought up, it gives off gently lingering mist floating above the water surface. The project attempts to heighten the experience of this mystic quality of blurring landscape through master layout design. The building masses, the passageways and the waterscape are strategically integrated with natural steam from hot-spring pools and some additional mechanized fog that would surround the overall atmosphere and experience. White mist floating just above water surface not only creates dreamy ambience but also provides certain level of privacy for guests relaxing in private hot spring pools from other guests’ view.

Podium of ZEN Tower in Central World Complex was totally unrecognizable. Smoke and heat went upward and destroy all furniture and finishing of all interior space on the tower. ZENSE, then a newly-opened yet one of the hippest Restaurants/Bars in the city, situated on ZEN Tower top floor, was one of the casualties of this unrest. As the original designer, DEPT was called to give ZENSE another life after the riot.

Not only does it create visual barrier between inside and outside; allowing no direct sight from inside to surrounding residence, but does it serve as light filter generating array of light quality for interior space.
