The project is located in Xinzhuang Industrial Zone, Minhang, Shanghai. The owner, Joyson Group, as a company with a German background, chose to build its office headquarters in Shanghai on the main axis of the headquarters economic group in order to highlight the corporate culture. This requires us to build a highly recognized building with a concise and dignified architectural image under the building height limits (less than 60 meters).

City is composed by buildings, and buildings are constructed from different building blocks, which have special space and material attributes; hence, the history of city construction can be understood as history of fortification, and Ningbo Urban Development Archives is a collector of this history of fortification indeed. Base on the understanding of the city construction, we superimpose the two properties of “space” and “material” to support the concept of “masonry”.

The purpose of school education is not only to teach students the knowledge and solve their confusion but also to stimulate their interest in learning and to make them enjoy it. Based on that thought, architects take "Enjoyment" as the theme and carry out two conditions from the point of architectural view to satisfy enjoyable space: The first is sense of space belonging which is brought by the enclosure of "independent world", the second is the maximum sharing of teaching resources and expansion of campus activity space, that is called maximum publicity. Based on the theme of "Enjoyment", the spatial concept mode of "Enjoyable Courtyard" is proposed.

Through 29 years’ entrepreneurship experiences, Haier Group already has been developed the leading brand of global “white goods” and has become an international-renowned Chinese enterprise at the same time. In 2012, it was awarded the Top 50 among the world's most innovative enterprises. Its development direction gradually entered the network strategy stage, and applying new ideas to lead the enterprise innovation in the Internet age has been the biggest challenge for Haier in this stage. In this context, the enterprise needs to create a cultural symbol reflecting the value of Haier, and to provide an innovative entrepreneurship platform for idea-exchange and thought- collision.

The buildings along the pedestrian streets of Nanjing Confucius Temple were built in 1980s in the style of Ming and Qing dynasties. The status of the facades was very bad and it also didn’t fit the modern functions. The complex relationship between leasehold and ownership increased the difficulty of renovation. The design gives consideration both to commercial plans and the upgrading of business models. Innovation and tradition are both valued to enhance the cultural significance as well as commercial atmosphere of the area.

This brings in a new spatial logic and creates a kind of ‘diffuse’ publicity in the campus.
