David Chipperfield Architects have released new details of their proposed IMPACT Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. Addressing the need for a purpose-built, medium-sized performance venue in a city of profound cultural heritage, the scheme will serve as a base for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with a main, 1000-seat auditorium.

Situated in Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, the scheme will replace an existing office building to become the first dedicated new space for music and performing arts in the city in 100 years. The scheme seeks to “form an urban composition centered around Dundas House,” a 1771 Grade-A listed civic building whose rear façade abuts the proposed scheme.

David Chipperfield Architects has won a competition to design the Elbtower, a 230-meter tall building in Hamburg that will be the city's tallest. Located on the eastern edge of the Hafencity, the sculptural building has a strong presence on the riverfront, forming a counterpoint to Herzog & de Meuron's Elbphilharmonie to the West. The building hosts office space in the tower, over a podium containing a bar, hotel, restaurant, retail and exhibition areas.

David Chipperfield Reveals New Renderings for Nobel Center in Stockholm

David Chipperfield Architects has made further refinements to the design for the Nobel Center in Stockholm. First revealed in October 2013, the project received harsh criticism for being an incongruous presence in the city’s historic center, which lead to a reduction in size amidst other changes in September of last year. Building on the 2015 revision, a more finalized version of the design has now been revealed in new exterior and interior renderings.

David Chipperfield Designs German Concert Hall

David Chipperfield Architects is preparing to break ground on a new concert hall in Künzelsau, Germany. Planned for a hillside site south of the city, the quaint "Carmen Würth Forum" will add a new event hall and a chamber music hall to the area by 2017. In the project's second phase, a conference center and museum for the Würth art collection will be added.

"The building is embedded in the landscape, characterized by expansive meadows and fields, which it integrates as an architectural theme," says Chipperfield.

David Chipperfield to Restore Berlin's Bötzow Brewery

David Chipperfield Architects has revealed plans to transform Berlin's former Bötzow Brewery into a new "public destination." Located near the city's Alexanderplatz, the 24,000-square-meter industrial site was first home to the Bötzow Brewery in 1885, before being severely damaged during World War II.

With the new masterplan, Chipperfield plans to restore the surviving 19th-century structures and added three new buildings - all centered around a public plaza - to provide space for a brewery, art gallery, restaurants, medical innovation center, boutique hotel and more. Construction is expected to complete in 2019.

Gridiron, One St. Pancras Square / David Chipperfield

London's King's Cross has seen a surge of redevelopment in recent years, the most iconic of which - John McAslan + Partner's new concourse for King's Cross Station - was completed last year. The area has also been defined by the new Central Saint Martin's campus, designed by Stirling Prize winner Stanton Williams, and Google's new London headquarters. Plans have now been unveiled for Gridiron (One St. Pancras Square), a 50,000 square foot office building nestled between St. Pancras International and King's Cross Stations, designed by David Chipperfield Architects and set for completion in the first half of 2014.
