In A Pattern Language (1977), Christopher Alexander proposed that residential buildings in cities should be no taller than six stories. Beyond this height, he argued, residents begin to detach from their street culture—not only physically but socially. Urban life becomes abstracted; the tactile and emotional immediacy of the street is lost. In Alexander's view, the vitality of a city is founded on a human scale—a sentiment echoed by Jane Jacobs, who championed the street as a stage for community life and advocated for diverse, walkable neighbourhoods where people live, work, and interact across social thresholds.

It consists of two buildings of approximately 285㎡ on two floors, and the middle staircase is responsible for crossing the two buildings vertically and horizontally. As can be seen from the location of the stairs, the two buildings were divided by legal regulations, and the flow and connection of space was organically created like a spiral structure of DNA connecting the four spaces on the two floors and the rooftop space on the original two sites. For this purpose, six spaces are connected.

In many cultures, marriage serves as a symbolic display of a society's lifestyle. It is also a rite of passage in which a community gathers to celebrate a transitional moment in a person's life. The space in which it is carried out contains symbols of livelihood (food, clothing and shelter) and facilitates social interaction and participation among guests on equal level as the couple. In Korea, one may also realise the coexistence of eastern and western cultural influences upon noticing that the wedding and bridal receptions and the wedding march, where western attire is used, contrasts starkly with Pyebaek, the traditional ceremony carried out between the couple and the parents. These characteristics reveal the need for resting areas and meeting areas, a bridal waiting room, a lobby, Pyebaek rooms, and space for the wedding banquet.

Yanggu, located in the rugged northeastern countryside of South Korea, has a pristine natural landscape, ironically because its closeness to the front lines of the Korean War discourages urban development. It is regions like these that have been attracting the growing number of Koreans who seek reprieve from the pressures of urban life as their society matures into late capitalism. An architectural model befitting the dreams of those that do return to the countryside would not only mean building less floors, providing proximity to the earth for those escaping from urban high rises, but also architectural answers to more essential ways of life that have long been forgotten due to the industrialization and commercialization of the last century.

I Tower is located a few blocks from Gangnam's business district, a symbol of modern Seoul that features a concentration of commerce, corporate and residential areas where one can find many digital design advertisement agencies. These characteristics of the location, and the emerging digital advertising brand's demand for a 'new type of office building', meant that there existed a need to incorporate functional flexibility, efficiency and symbolic significance. To further illustrate the context, the site is located at a block corner and faces a small park to the north, around which there are residential buildings of three to five stories. Facing the park to the north and the business district's high rise buildings to the south, the design needed a balance between not disrupting the neighborhood's public space and forming a part of the urban landscape.
Under these circumstances, the objective of establishing a space for conferences, lectures, events and leisure for 200 employees had to be achieved in a building with a height to width ratio of 2:1.
