The Program
The buildings house a residential complex made up of 125 apartments, garages, and storage rooms, which during the project and commissioning process have allowed the development of 22 different types of apartments, both on a single floor and in duplex format. The complex is exclusively dedicated to residential use. In addition to the apartments, there is a free space for public use and three covered community spaces: a children's playroom, a gym, and a dining room.

SCHEDULE - The project foresees the construction of 34 dwellings in an open building promoted by a group of owners constituted as a cooperative, enabling their active participation in formal and programmatic decision-making. This way of associating reduces construction costs (by eliminating the promoter’s profit), democratises decision-making and generates a sense of belonging for future coexistence and interaction in the built space.

Carabuxeira is a place located in Sanxenxo. It takes its name from a little beach placed at the foot of the southwest slope of the Alto de Chan de Gorita (a megalithic complex over 4.000 years ago), an enclave of great landscape value.

Situation. The geometry of the plot is like a rhomboid with 40 meters on the longest side and 22 meters on the short side. The longest side is oriented in the northwest-southwest direction. The short side is in contact with the road which communicates the house with the village of Xinzo. The topography is assimilable to a flat surface with a minimum fall in a longitudinal direction. However, there is a vertical drop in relation to the neighbor’s plot, in the north. There is an auxiliary building in the northwest plot’s corner intended for storage.

The Cooperative is based on one of the plots of the residential estate that emerged in the 90s from the urbanization of the surroundings of Santa Marta´s Hermitage, next to Monte de Conxo. In the ordination proposed by the current urban planning, the buildings for residential use are developed in open blocks in a U-shape embracing inner courtyards for private use.
