The community centre El Roure and library La Ginesta are a cultural mix facility which includes a community centre with a multipurpose theatre and a municipal library as a result of a joint work among technicians, administration and citizens. Fully integrated into its surroundings, the centre is a social and cultural catalyst which enhances a natural space by the landscape recovering of Begues Stream and of a downy oak which names the centre.

Miba Architects' University of Cyprus Medical School Proposal Combines Lab and Social Space

A proposal by Miba Architects and Calderon‐Folch‐Sarsanedas Architects has received 2nd prize in an international competition to design the new medical school for the University of Cyprus. The project proposes a “campus within a campus,” combining the strict bio-climatic regulations of a research lab with a social space for learning. Read more after the break.

A multifunctional hall made of local timber that reinterprets the traditional rural Bourgogne's architecture. Chauffailles, a village in the French Bourgogne, needs a new multifunctional community centre that will be named Léonce Georges, in memoriam of a local hero. For this purpose, the Town Hall acquires the old farm of the convent “Les sœurs de Jésus”. This old and disused construction, placed in a gentle slope opened to the fields, was practically in ruins; a deep rehabilitation and a further addition were needed in order to house the new use.

Enjoy a centenary house with the maximum comfort and minimum energy cost. The challenge was to refurbish a house built in 1918 maintaining both the original volume and façade whilst improving the thermal and acoustic comfort. The construction systems and materials used have made possible not only to achieve the goal but also to lower the energy demand from 171 kWh/m2a to 17 kWh/m2a (known as a 10 factor rehabilitation); transforming a traditional existing building into a Passive House in only 120 days.
