The towers and the patio The Building is located in Polanco, one of the centers of greatest urban intensity in Mexico City. It consists of 3 independent towers that are articulated to generate a central patio that allows the construction of a community space that constitutes the identity of the complex and is qualified by its friendly proportions for the scale of the building. The patio allows all units to have a double orientation, and therefore the ensures cross ventilation of the apartments, and with it, the possibility of thermal control with passive systems. The building was born from the desire to be a project open to the city. Generating the maximum number of linear meters of façade, and trying to ensure that they have the best possible orientation to guarantee the best possible thermal and light contribution to each and every one of the departments. At the same time, the will to define an efficient and economic construction system, based on the definition of dimensions that avoid large gaps and therefore structural cost overruns. Each of the 10 plants of the project has 4 departments; Along with two apartments that enjoy a private patio on the ground floor, the project has a total of 40 units. The apartments are distributed around the central patio, totally consolidating its north facade, and opening to the south. The location of two vertical cores, as efficient in their operation as possible, act as a hinge between the departments.

La Casa Ombra is a patio house: a house inscribed within an almost perfect cube. It is a white excavated cube whose mass has been subtracted to allow it to be inhabited. Terraces, visual frames, windows, and a central courtyard of double-height form the palette of perforation strategies that transgress the purity of its geometry. Located in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, the house is set around a central courtyard that acts as an extension of the interior spaces.

An old village theatre built in the late nineteenth century and converted over time ﬁrst in a barn and then in a toilet paper warehouse is now transformed to operate as a live/work space. “The Theatre” (name that has maintained the building despite the change in its uses) is located in the geographical heart of Barcelona at the buoyant tech district 22 @ in the Poblenou neighbourhood. A few meters away from Diagonal Avenue and the new Central Park of the Glorias.

The MA lounge is located on one side of the front garden of MA House. They share landscape, garden, and cross views. It has a very specific program, and of temporary use: it is the space of shade next to the swimming pool, the place for readings and games near the water, the space designed for the body and its cares.

The landscape surrounding the house is a unique place, where each and every one of its corners can be celebrated. The project works with a double strategy: to build lookouts towards three specific points distant from each other while building a central, nodal, protected but open to the outside, and that has a total exposure to different environments that the own architecture delimits. The architectural strategy is also developed through the materiality of the project: on the one hand with decisions that have to do with maintenance, structure and thermal behavior; and on the other, by material decisions that result from considering the visual weight that architecture must have in landscapes as recondite as the one the house occupies.

The plot is located at the edge of the mangrove swamp of Puerto Morelos, about fifty kilometers south of Cancun, at the Riviera Maya; beyond the mangrove are the unique colors of the Caribbean Sea. The property is surrounded by lush vegetation, typical of its watery condition. Nevertheless, with the height that the project grants to the future house, the sea will be seen, thus the views will be evolving from floor to floor: from the intense green to the clear blue of the sky and the water.

The commission of the house comes together with the explicit petition to use stone as the main construction material. The decision doesn't respond necessarily to esthetic reasons but more likely to its common existence in the place, its little need for maintenance and its low cost for built square meter. Such premises are taken as a project challenge both in a structural, typological and esthetic way.

The project is located in the Colonia Roma, a historic neighbourhood in the central sector of Mexico City. La Roma developed in the 19th century as one of the first extensions of the city centre, with an orthogonal grid of large houses inhabited by the upper classes of the city. With the emergence of suburban life in the 50s, la Roma decreased its population throughout the second half of the 20th century, getting to its worst with earthquake of 1985.

The Sunflower house sits on a privileged condition of limit; in the border within the water of the Mediterranean sea and the hard rock of the Costa Brava, between the wild nature of Cabo de Creus and the urban settlement of El Port de la Selva, a small fisherman village in the border of France and Spain. A place where the Pyrenees get into the water, generating an exceptional wildlife richness, both in the coast and in the water. The house wants to identify each of the particularities of this magnificent landscape; with its geometry, the house frames a multiplicity of different and specific views, and builds up content spaces that inhabit great big framed views.

As part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the International Prize of Catalonia, the pavilion was conceived as a visual catalog of the various stakeholders involved in its long history. The original request, due to reasons of schedule and budget, was to design an exhibition at one of the smaller rooms of the Palau Robert; the will of the exhibition is to give visibility and recognition to the award. The project comes from the conviction that the small budget allocated can actually build a large and notorious space in a central location of the Palau . The challenge is to consolidate and qualify an illuminated and waterproof space, with the minimum possible installation.

The X House project aims to solve by the definition of a system, language, or even through a unique form, a number of inquiries that rise up when we read the specific given site: how to protect and give protagonism to an impressive pine, that is located on the top of the site, and that makes access and approximation to the house extremely complex from the street; how to avoid deciding between the views to the sea and those to the mountains, and allow both visions in opposite directions; how to neutralize through form the presence of the contiguous constructions, to build up a fake isolation that denies the neighbours; how to double the main views, permitting quality frontal views from the front and the rear of the house; how to resolve so many a priories with a simple movement that answers to all of the previous aims without prioritizing nor explicitly formulating a response to any of them. The form, a unique form, is the result of a long process of search of individual answers to each of those challenges; thus, the form is not an a priori, but an effort to give a unitary response that satisfies each of the questions rose up in the design process.

Tepoztlan, is a small town nestled between rocky cliffs located to the south of Mexico City, 50 kilometers away from the vibrant metropolis. With its well preserved historic center and wild countryside, Tepoztlan is a town of legends and deep cultural roots that has been appreciated by writers, poets, artists and musicians over many decades, turning it into their hometown or weekend retreat. Located in this incredible context and surrounded by an astonishing landscape, the Tepoztlan Lounge is the first building completed of a larger project that also includes a series of bungalows of different sizes and designs, which can be rented by years, months or days. The lounge is set to be a central communal space for leisure in nature, and is located in the perimeter of an incredible lawn; the idiosyncrasy of the project relies on enabling the experience of the carefully manicured lawn while promoting the experience of the wild nature existing in the boundaries of this central space. The project is a negotiation between interior and exterior, a construction of an in-between condition, an inhabitable threshold, which becomes the main space of the project; the limits between the open and the content space merge to produce a single architectural entity.

The project seeks to recuperate the construction values of an old existing vernacular house which was made out of dry stone, a traditional technique of the area of great tectonic value. However the distinctive attributes inherent to this construction technique (compactness, massiveness, minimum openings, obscure interiors, weight) deny the extraordinary environment where it is located: on top of a mountain, with views to 2 different valleys that are faced by the two only façades of the house.
