The area surrounding the Portu Dock in Barakaldo is a vast, empty space that bears the traces of its history. Although blurred, it is a place of great beauty and extraordinary potential, offering splendid views over the Nervión estuary from its upper level and a lush, wild horizontal landscape on its lower level.

Maribor's coachmen were the most delighted when in 1912 the Austrians opened the now Stari Most - the ‘Old Bridge’ - over the Drava River, replacing the wooden bridge that had caused an annoying bottleneck on the busy road from Vienna to Trieste. The Stari Most, which links the districts of Lent and Tabor north and south of the river at its highest point, eventually became a symbol of the city, even though it left the banks of the Drava disconnected at the lowest point. The new Splavarska pedestrian bridge now links the two banks again in close proximity to the ‘Old Bridge’. Next to it, the new bridge is silent, underlines the presence of the metal structure of the old bridge in the city and distinguishes itself from it with a different material.

In the neighborhood of Torre Baró in Barcelona, at the lower part of the Collserola mountain range allowing the geographical exit from the north of the city, two very different urban fabrics converge as a result of the intersection between landscape and infrastructure: On one hand, a suburban area with largely "self-constructed" houses that climb the slope, seeking places with gentler topography and allowing the continuity of nature through their interstices. On the other hand, a new urban fabric consisting of mostly affordable housing blocks and facilities that, in contact with the city's exit routes, penetrate the neighborhood by taking advantage of the more accessible paths built over small watercourses.

The plot and the programme of needs on which this architectural proposal is based establish very defined limits that require an accurate and rigorous response. The proposed project is strict in its development, but offers some unexpected elements that give the building a powerful and attractive identity.

The most valuable elements on the plot are the two formidable pine trees to be found on it and importance is placed on rescuing the space beneath their branches which has been used for years as a place for celebration and dancing by the town of Casas Ibáñez. The theater is built around this shaded space, neither entirely an exterior nor an interior space, empty and open; within this take place all the access points to merchandise, management, rehearsal rooms as well as access to the public.
