Designed by architects Mariana Maria Portillo and Pedro Pantoja, the renovation of this 97 m² (1,044 sq ft) single-story penthouse in Copacabana was conceived for hybrid use: serving as a home for the owner, who works from home, as well as for short-term rentals. Found in a precarious state, the property was completely transformed, with no preservation of the original floor plan.

This 150-square-meter apartment in Lagoa, Rio de Janeiro, was born from the clients' desire (a couple with two children aged 8 and 10) to honor the original architecture of the 1950s–1960s modernist building, designed by Amaro Machado and Lolo Cornelsen. The project preserves the original pillars, beams, and parquet flooring, highlighting the continuous natural light coming from the ribbon windows. The generous floor plan was mainly transformed in the social area.

With her daughter moving abroad, the client — a publicist — decided to begin a new chapter in a smaller, more practical apartment aligned with her daily routine. She left behind an old 200m² property and moved to a new 84m² home in Gávea, in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone. The challenge for Bric Arquitetura was to optimize every square meter with purpose — and elegance.
