The urban ensemble on Arcostraße incorporates elements from the regulations of the Berlin block and adapts them to our present time. While the front buildings along the street resume as a continuous row, in the inner area of the property, five individual buildings are staggered and form the rear buildings. In comparison to the Berlin buildings that shaped the cityscape at the end of the 19th century, the side wings are replaced by walkways that serve as access to the apartments. This creates a cohesive ensemble with a high degree of permeability.

Pergolenviertel Residential Complex / blrm Architekt*innen

The Pergolenviertel describes the „block in the green“ in the urban environment between Hamburg‘s City Nord and Barmbek. The static blocks, which open up to nature with passages in the form of round arches, sit in the green space originally used as an allotment settlement, which flows through and shapes the new quarter.

Along the banks of Hamburg Alster, one can find the recurring typology of the so-called "Alsterterrassen" terraced buildings built in the last third of the 19th century. blrm reference this typology with their newly built housing project along the Alsterchaussee corresponding to the existing structures in cubature and color.

Old warehouses, new promenades, bridges crossing the Fleets, new architecture and the Port of Hamburg – the conversion of the former port precinct to create HafenCity is taking shape. From the outside you can hardly detect its functional diversity – but behind the facades there is a sophisticated mix of urban housing, a hotel, a top class cinema, a public underground car park, restaurants and shops.

The classroom building H1 has just been completed within the complex of the Ganztagsschule (day school) in the Hamburg district of Bergedorf. It serves as a “Haus der Kultur” (building of culture) which complements the existing buildings in the campus with additional units. Blauraum has developed a comprehensive brief based on the results of the public participation process and standard requirements and guidelines posed by the local authorities.
