The property of the KiTa Parkstrasse is located in the vicinity of the Berg Cultural Park in the east of Stuttgart. The new two-storey building of the four-group nursery school is part of the green corridor with historic trees on the site of the previous building. The positioning, building dimensions, construction and materials of the building are based on the special characteristics of the premises: The local building code specifies a building depth of twelve metres. Its position and orientation result from the construction line and the terrain sloping from west to east. The foundation on an existing underground bunker makes a lightweight timber construction the only alternative.

The clear-cut building volume of the Regional Innovation Centre for Energy Technology (RIZ) at the street corner Badstraße / Südring marks the entrance to the new campus. Towards Badstraße, the building appears as a largely closed structure, whilst in the west, a large open façade faces the future North Campus. A generous, angled recess on the west façade guides pedestrians approaching from the old campus through the underpass to the main entrance. The building comprises a multi-storey research wing with offices and a directly adjacent test. The office workplaces are located in a clearly structured room cluster that faces west, overlooking the campus and the nearby Kinzig. Located between the technical centre and the research workplaces is an area of circulation and ancillary rooms that repeatedly provides views into the hall.

The detached house is situated on the northern edge of the new residential area “An den Remstal-Quellen”. On the basis of a new land-use plan, the former company grounds have been converted to a residential area just outside the city of Stuttgart. This provided our clients, a young family, with the opportunity to build their own home. The rented flat in Stuttgart’s valley basin with public transport connection was thus traded for a one-family house with electric car.

Ernsting's family is branch enterprise of the textile industry based in the Coesfeld Lette (Westphalia). Continuous growing of the enterprise led to new buildings, which supplement the existing distribution centre of Santiago Calatrava and Bruno Reichlin from the early 1980s. Architect Johannes Schilling added another distribution centre in 1999. The company’s new service centre designed by David Chipperfield was completed in 2001. All buildings are situated in a green campus, for which the Belgian landscape architect Peter Wirtz is responsible.

The day-care centre for children “Schöne Aussicht” is a prototype of the building block design system for childcare facilities in Frankfurt on the Main. The design has been developed on the basis of a competition won in 2009. The centre comprises two-storey buildings of varying sizes, which are currently errected at several locations in the city of Frankfurt. The buildings are timber structures which meet the passive house standard.

With a 23.5 m high look-out tower, the “Landesgartenschau Hemer“ contributes a new landmark upon the city. The tower, which has been completed after a planning and construction period of merely nine months, comprises a hyperboloid of straight timber members. In 2008, it won the second prize in a competition and has been designed, planned and completed by the working group Birk und Heilmeyer Architekten BDA and Knippers Helbig Advanced Engineering, Stuttgart. It was of- ficially commissioned on 17 April, the day of the opening of the “Landes- gartenschau”. The look-out tower has been donated by the foundation of the Stadtsparkasse Hemer.
