The project of restoration, refurbishment and conversion of the ancient Customs building includes the recovery of the site and its transformation into a contemporary museum. The Bicentenary Museum is situated in one of Argentina’s most dense historical areas. The central objective of the work consisted in the material and symbolic recovery of the building in its whole. The glazed cover proposed to protect the yard tends to reconcile the need to “cover and protect” the actual archeological site, with the necessity of keeping the typical brightness of an open space - the former yard - and with the need to create suitable conditions for the exhibition of other cultural goods, in particular the Mural painting “Plastic Exercise”, by the Mexican artist David Alfaro Siqueiros. A soft fold of the glazed roof resolves the public access, establishing a particular continuity with the city.
