The plot, very long but nevertheless wide, faced the street on the low level and a big field on the high level. This difference in height creates a big difference in quadrats, almost creating two separate worlds in the same plot. The existing house in schist holds a Romanic church capitel on its facade and arose an initial debate of how to preserve it with the local authorities, due to the state of total ruin and the intentions to extend the house to more than its double.

The existing house, in a wedge-shaped corner of Bairro da Vilarinha, already had a preexisting extension to the west, to which direction it could be extended again, thus answering to the order made. The neighborhood, one of the last ones from the Estado Novo period located in Porto to invest in single-family housing with small backyards for a social class consisting mainly of state employees (1958), consistently repeats the typology as a model in a significant area of new urbanization. Throughout the neighborhood, there is a clear attempt to reproduce belatedly some modern models of public initiative housing, originally from the German and Russian experiences from the beginning of the century.

This design could be something of ephemeral, specifically in wood, - it would consciously last no longer than 20, 30 years -, should be conceived thinking of childhood still in its early stages and of the family life, and its construction should, last but not least, be fast, very fast, as in a race against the clock disputed with these two last "space-time". In the teardrop-shaped triangle that we find in a corner of Gemeses, in Esposende, towards the banks of the Cávado River, shall "fit" a large social space for the whole family, both interior and exterior, and three units for an overnight stay, all this articulated with the arrival and accommodation of a few cars. The articulation shall be added as well with all the classical conditioning of architecture, from the various commitments with the place to the dialogue between us and the rules established by public entities.
