In the north-east of Brasil, on the shore of São Miguel do Gostoso supported by the softest things: the wind and the clouds, rises casa Modico, one of the recent and characteristic projects by Atelier Branco. The influence of the land and its connection to the wind has developed in the client and creator the will to imagine a proper response to local architectural traditions. Therefore the building is respectful in the construction technology, it’s ecologically sustainable and is a reference point for the landscape.

Casa Musico is a small residential project located in a green neighborhood of São Paulo called Alto de Pinheiros, all surrounded by palms and local nature. The house was entirely custom made for the client, a musician. The entrance is a clear geometric 85 square meters space defined and sustained by the timber structure designed on the diagonal of the square.

Located in the neighbourhood of Jardins, São Paulo (BR), this brand new apartment was handled to the client completely empty and with no infrastructure by the real estate developer. A double height space of 35 sqm floor plan was the only and great quality asset given. It was required to Atelier Branco in 2016 to design a fully functional apartment for a single person use. So the main creation was the mezzanine, that would give enough area to have a bedroom and study room together with a living and dining rooms, altogether in a fluid space and a continuous circulation.

When in the summer of 2014, founding members of Atelier Branco, Matteo Arnone and Pep Pons were approached to design a leisurely retreat in the small town of Vinhedo, the brief posited that the house be able to accommodate at least two kind of needs: the need for a place to read, immersed within the site’s vibrant vegetation; the need for a place to think, reposed under the placidness of the area’s boundless subtropical skies. The client, a left block activist against Brazil’s military dictatorship in his youth and now renowned scholar of the history of political thought, had conceived of the house as a temporary haven between São Paulo and Campinas, at which the State University he held teaching posts since the beginning of the nineteen eighties. It was thus neither to be a permanent place of residence nor a holiday home as conventionally understood, but a place of reverie and contemplation, occasionally of work, away from the bustle of Brazil’s hectic metropolitan life.
