How can it embrace outdoor spaces that simultaneously protect the residents' privacy from neighbors' views and ensure comfort on days of strong wind?

The sand is cut by a wide net of wooden walkways, which go over the dunes and allow pedestrian crossing from the urban cluster to the beach.
The project states the profound reformulation of a building of 4 apartments located on Rua do Olival, in Lisbon, transforming it into a single-family house. From the pre-existence, due to the imposition of the council, the main façade was maintained, with the rest of the building being entirely new. It was thus decided to take advantage of the juxtaposition of two different times, apparent in the original architecture present on the facade and that of a new interior that is admittedly contemporary, establishing a different dialogue between these two moments, expressive both inside and outside.

This plot is located in S. Pedro do Estoril, a suburb of Lisbon, within walking distance to beach. Waterfront ambiance defines the privileged character of this area, once a summer retreat of local aristocratic families. It is inserted on a large scale urbanization, in a medium density sector for single family homes. Local regulations define basic parameters – building in the center of the plot, leaving the surrounding space for a garden. It allows for a 3 floor house, one below ground, restricts building footprint and total gross area.

The concept for this house emerges from a reflection on the identity of Lisbon architecture, a recurring type of 6-meter-wide and 15-meter-long deep house, ending in a small garden in the back. It is a 5-storey building with two radically different elevations: one “public” in white lioz limestone (the most used in Lisbon) and the one in the back, in glass, connected by an interior world in exposed concrete, punctuated by birch wood elements.

The Abrantes Municipal Market is located in the transition to the historical center, where the Rodoviária do Tejo's workshops once were, so badly in ruins that demolition was recommended. It is an urban lot between two streets, each at a different height: at the bottom (to the west) we have the Largo do Tribunal (Court Square); at the top to the east, the N. Sra da Conceição street. It is an extraordinarily narrow lot for the program at hand, and this feature has ultimately determined the design project.
