Combining apartments with a care home in IJburg. It all proved possible on an impossible triangular plot. The project location is a long, triangular plot of land that the client, De Alliantie, was eager to develop. The site is part of the Haveneiland area in IJburg. The urban plan features compact blocks at the center of the island, which become more open and spacious towards the edges by the water. Part of the project location was designated for Marius Meijboom, a living-and-care home for children and adults with complex disabilities.

The main requirement was high living quality. The individual houses had to be of high quality, with good orientation and proportions. In addition, there had to be a great diversity of homes overall, especially to preserve families in the city.

This project for eight family houses is situated near the Funenpark in the city centre of Amsterdam. The site is a small courtyard, behind a former school building turned into housing. These 8 single family houses are built on the location of a demolished small factory, which was used as a workspace and studio for a media company. The hidden and enclosed space reminds us of the typical Amsterdam courtyards from the middle Ages. The new intimate courtyard is designed together with Hosper Landscape Architecture and the inhabitants of the school. The owners have a small private outside space and the rest is communal space.

The building on the west side is to be maintained. To the east and to the north, existing buildings, including a church, are demolished. Two major projects with some height accents come in its place.
