At the beginning there was a large plot on the outskirts of Bratislava, overlooking the forest. And also a large, growing family, with a desire to live in a brick house. However, the orientation of the plot was difficult, with new family houses quickly growing up in the neighbourhood. So the idea of three massive houses, interconnected by light, transparent spaces, arose. Thus, the sun and daylight will reach all the rooms, and the family will have a sense of privacy, even if the house stands in a built-up area.

How to design a family house in a rural area of the 21st century, preserve the best traditions and add the best features of contemporary architecture? Our answer to this challenge is a rural house J, which is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Slovak house with a “gánok”, a kind of a corridor (the Slovak word “gánok” originated from German - Gang). The house lies at the end of a picturesque village in Záhorie in western Slovakia. Just as there used to be a solid house for living and a wooden barn next to it in the past, today we have designed a brick house as a living area and next to it a wooden structure as a garage.

C2 House represents a family living in a quiet green neighbourhood for people who like spending their free time outdoors all year long. The main idea is the diffusion of spaces within the house and the garden. The atrium with a fireplace and a summer kitchen becomes the core of the family life.
