Situated in a high-end housing project, the Gable House has been designed such that it appears camouflaged within its environment. Although located close to urban public infrastructure and a local community of low-density dwellings, it fits well into the high quality, natural urban environment. Local regulations have influenced many aspects of the design including height restrictions, material choices, colour scheme, open space ratio and the roof form. Warm grey tiles covering a gable roof structure provide the key external visual effect and sense of harmonisation with the surroundings. Its name, “Gable House,” is derived from this most visually recognisable roof form.

A client, who is fond of A49HD’s style of tropical architecture, approached us to design a new house in a similar style. They wanted something in our signature style, but also something we had never done before. This was an interesting and challenging proposal, to create a sense of familiarity in something different and new.

This geometric dwelling is situated amidst big rain trees either inside or outside the boundary, in a suburban area of Bangkok. Although, the location is near the urban fabric such as transport connections, it is still a friendly and peaceful neighborhood as well as a good natural environment. There are three different functions consisting of a main house, a glass pavilion and an exercise complex which are delicately organized in this charismatic setting.
