Muxarabi House / Ana Sawaia Arquitetura

Designed by Vilanova Artigas in 1956, Muxarabi House is organized around a clear structural system and a precise spatial arrangement. A white rectangular volume elevated on pilotis is distributed across two levels defined by a regular reinforced concrete grid. On the upper floor, the bedrooms face northeast, benefiting from the gentle morning sun. A continuous veranda screened by muxarabis regulates light and heat throughout the day. On the ground floor, large glass panels establish a direct relationship between the interior spaces and the garden.

This 350 m² (3,767 sq ft) penthouse, located in a 1990s building, had already undergone a previous renovation completed in 2019. The existing intervention featured a darker palette, with graphite flooring, track lighting, and dense finishes that did not align with the lifestyle or expectations of the current residents.

This is the third residential project designed for the same family — a couple with two children, who are now young adults. The challenge this time was to transform a three-story penthouse in Jardim Paulista, São Paulo, into a warm and functional home with a house-like atmosphere, inside a building dating back to 1976.

Located in the Jardins neighborhood of São Paulo, this apartment occupies the first floor of a building designed by Sérgio Ambrogini in 1973. The current intervention builds upon a previous renovation, carried out in 2021 by Studio Lak, from which some elements were preserved.

The Polish architect Lucjan Korngold designed the Higienópolis Building in 1946, which was completed in 1949. Korngold settled in the building's penthouse, where he resided until his death. As an influential figure in São Paulo's architectural landscape during the 1940s and 1950s, he also designed the CBI Esplanada Building in São Paulo's city center, the Bom Retiro Commercial Center, and various residential buildings in Higienópolis. The apartments within this building feature an intriguing layout distinguished by a large balcony that extends through the bedrooms, along with a small central patio that admits natural light into the living area.

The generous cantilevered concrete planters over the urban façade offer passersby the view of a truly green cascade. The arched openings on the side facades are glazed with anodized aluminum frames, which further expose the rhythm of the exposed concrete vaulted structure.

A 140m2 apartment located in the Louveira Building, from 1946, designed by Vilanova Artigas and Carlos Cascaldi, underwent a radical renovation project. The entire process was carefully dealt with in order to respect and dialogue with the original aesthetics and design of the building. The group in charge of the project intended to make those who entered the apartment feel as if they were at the original Louveira.

Architect Ana Sawaia makes an invitation to pause in her debut at Casa Cor In this project to Casa Cor, the architect Ana Sawaia offers a space to rescue the pleasure and need to stop and take a deep breath. Saleta Pausa is spread over 25 m2 in the Jockey Club of São Paulo. The lack of openness to the exterior is counterbalanced by the use of high-end and natural materials, lighting and furniture. "To live a fulfilling life is to be surrounded by practical solutions and also objects that tell us a little about who we are," says the architect.
