The Port of Tarragona, built on reclaimed land consisting of piers and docks, is heavily shaped by specific, sometimes isolated, interventions that create a highly fragmented space in constant transformation. Its landscape is the result of a combination of forms provided by both the natural environment and human intervention: piers, breakwaters, dikes, buildings, tanks, and cranes provide the identifying and distinguishing features of this landscape. This industrial landscape has become increasingly separated from the city, as the nature of port operations makes them incompatible with urban life. Therefore, rather than considering the landscape as something eternal or static, or as a visual frame in which to insert the work, we have chosen to accept its physical dimension and reality within this port space as a catalyst for developing an architectural idea.
