The new kindergarten is situated on the edge of the urban center, where the town and the countryside come together. In a place where the industrial past is still present in the collective memory, and where some old facilities remain. A series of volumes, almost elementary, are connected as if they were the wood houses in a nearby “rueiro” evoking the woodworking tradition of the area.

The Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela became a World Heritage Site in 1985. Since then the Council has been working on buildings, both public and private. Over the last years, the Council has begun working on public space too; the parks, the streets or the squares. But even so there are still vacant sites in the city, complicated sites, without any clear use or even good access.

Monterroso is a small village in
the province of Lugo famous for its annual fair, more than five hundred years
old, celebrated on the Day of the Dead. As often happens in these cases, the
health center covers an area larger than the core of the city, and a significantly
aging population. To the northwest corner of the block, the bus stop acquires a
significant importance, whereas the possible relationship with the municipal
headquarters to the northeast is less important.

We have been asked to renovate a small traditional building in rural Galicia which is to be used as the foundation’s headquarters. Particular care will be taken in the project; walls will be reinforced; the tiled roof will be replaced and a bathroom adapted to its surroundings will be installed. The interior will be repaired and painted white; some walls will be panelled and the woodwork will be replaced. The intervening beams will be reused as support for the lighting. Granite flooring and finishing touches of black steel will complete the work.
