Located in a mountain village beside a man-made lake two and a half hours' drive north of Tokyo, the Tomihiro Museum is dedicated to the work of local poet-illustrator Tomihiro Hoshino. Since 1991, when the Museum first opened on the refurbished premises of a disused home for the elderly, an average of more than 1000 persons a day have made the trip here, for a ten-year total of over 4 million visitors—a surprising number considering the remote location.

The site is located in the steep range of hills of the western part in Kanagawa Prefecture. A residential section including this site was developed and sold in lots in the 1970s. Such a flat site is rare in this residential section. As a result of piling up the daily life image of the client considered and drawn on the value, I made a judgment to make a 1 story building.

This project is co-designed with the artist, Yukihiro Yoshihara. It is a photography gallery located in Taito-ku, Tokyo, sitting in the corner of a small temple. This small gallery was extended to the parking space in an existing building. The building includes a three-meter wide square shape exhibition room and a three by one meter rectangular exhibition room. Both of them are very narrow spaces. The joint parts of wall, ceiling, and floor are made of prefabricated polycarbonate that let the three parts blur into each other. When inside, the endless wideness atmosphere is experienced in the extremely narrow interior space.
