A long folding house cranks its way down a lengthy garden plot ceded from the back-lands of a larger holding. In contrast with its more reticent next-door neighbour this house confidently acknowledges its urban context by tightly screening itself to the street and more actively opening at the upper level. What first presents itself as a trumpet-like balcony peering over the perimeter wall to the street becomes the final space of the house – a living room that overlooks Fitzgerald Park and the Daly Suspension Bridge in the distance.

‘Pulp Press (Kistefos) 2013’ is a permanent site-specific artist-architect commission for Kistefos Museum - one of Scandinavia's largest parks of contemporary sculpture. The museum occupies the grounds of a 19th century paper mill in Jevnaker, an hour north of Oslo, Norway.

Seaside House / A2 Architects

A new seaside holiday house occupies the former site of a longstanding summer chalet with existing private access to a beach. Resonating with the scale and placement of neighbouring mobile homes, two untreated douglas fir timber enclosures rest on a cast concrete podium over a drift geology. Shelter unfolds between parallel wall planes to embrace views east over the Irish Sea and west over potato fields.

The introduction of the luas light rail service along the old harcourt street railway line has resulted in a blurring of private and public space for houses that back onto the railway line. A reversal occurs resulting in the rear of houses being presented as the new front.
