Chapel Of Saint Peter / Atelier 66

While designing an urban park near the sea in Praia Norte, Viana do Castelo, we were invited to create a small chapel. The site already featured a humble, glass-fronted oratory built by local residents, which was originally slated for demolition. However, given the community's strong connection to the structure—and their devotion to Saint Peter, the patron saint of fishermen—we felt it was essential to preserve its symbolic value.

The Portuguese Sea coast between Viana do Castelo and Galicia is very popular for refuge and summer retreat. This house allows this double use. It is located halfway up a hill near the Atlantic Sea. This means that on the one hand it faces the sea and on the other hand, it profits from a unique plot that kept the natural beauty of the landscape.

The Nogueiras house occupies an existing stone construction in direct relation with the front patio and with views to the sea.Formerly used as a barn, it has now been converted into a house. To the West, the stone facade and wall limit the plot with the public road and to the East the main entrance of the house is made under a vineyard.

Designing a bank is always a delicate affair. On the one hand it is important to highlight the transparency and accessibility necessary to an institution that holds our money. On the other hand, it is always necessary to ensure a sense of security and robustness. The exterior of the building looks for that, the ground floor is transparent, easy to see through and access, the upper floors have less fenestrations and more solid construction.
