Casa Gruta, located in the Sisal neighborhood of Valladolid, Yucatán, is an architectural project designed by architects Salvador Román Hernández and Adela Mortera Villarreal. This space aims to explore perception, scale, and materiality through a plastic and architectural approach that evokes the sensation of a refuge, reminiscent of a cave. The work invites reflection on the fleeting nature of time and the relationship between the ephemeral and the eternal through the use of light and shadow, and the interaction between new structures and pre-existing ones.

The new School of Arts of Valladolid is adjacent to the convent of Las Carmelitas Descalzas. According to historical plans, the plot used to be part of the convent's orchards, a condition which has characterised the project from the beginning. Towards the city, the buildings shows itself as an architecture of walls; towards the inside, an architecture of patios. The project strives to be respectful of its historical context. However, it houses a space for creativity, youth and dreams. The essence of the project is the materialization of this duality. The exterior is clad in black brick; an architecture of texture, materiality and colour, which creates a sort of mystifying atmosphere that surrounds and protects the inner world of creation. The interior is thought of, by opposition, as a technological space, white and bright with formal allusions to industrial architecture, production and creation.

The origin of its rhythm and its proportion. The layout of the plot, on the east-west axis, imposed its search. The project was conceived from the section; as a vertical stacking system composed by a sequence of elements attached in height to each other with the sole purpose of exploiting natural lighting. With our project strategy, we were not only meant to achieve an appreciable energy saving, but we should also provide the working area with the most favorable, warm atmosphere for the development of working activities.

The housing for the elderly in Adeamayor de San Martin (Valladolid) can not be understood without its context. Located on the border of a saline hidden wetland (Salgüeros de Aldeamayor) the aridity of the terrain and the infinite horizontality of the Spanish agricultural esplanade - dotted with small masses of pine trees - dominates the landscape, conditioning the implementation of any structure or artifact. In turn, our approaches were held by insistent ideas: provide our elderly with kind environment which promote to be in touch with nature, with the sun, but also enhancing the close relation between inhabitants of the building; the neighborly relations among chairs in the front door of the houses that are so recognizable in the rural areas of Castilla y León.

The adopted solution starts from the determining presence of a preexistent building, marked by the hospitable architecture of the seventies: a great complex massively implanted with a monolithic scale, identified unequivocally as a typical sanitary endowment in the city. In spite of its " not nice " image, the building grants an architectural personality that needs to be valued.

The Niara Sports Club needed a place of its own for its activities. After finding a suitable site in an easily accessible, outlying residential area with a low population density, the Schola Foundation decided to concentrate a large number of its activities into a single building, thus fulfilling a number of complex requirements that included an educational and recreational area for children at two different stages of development- "small” and “big" children; a separate area for parents’ meetings and activities, an area for offices, a residential area, and a block of independent services. All of the above were laid out around the chapel which, together with the sports complex, is the nucleus of the centre.
