Challenging the traditional model of a tucked-away pantry, we boldly reposition the "Employee Interaction Lounge" as the heart of the workspace. Through "diverted circulation" and a "separate yet connected" layout, we craft an office that employees are eager to return to—an ideal response to the new era of remote and hybrid work. By weaving together materiality, abundant natural light, and intentional blank spaces, we ease workplace stress and inject a sense of calm into the fast-paced financial consulting industry.

After the pandemic, the elderly parents and their daughters, previously living in southern and northern Taiwan, began considering future care needs and decided to live together in Taipei. Located in a 40-year-old public housing complex, this 72-sqm apartment navigates two opposing conditions: the tranquil greenery of the Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab to the south, and the bustle of a major commercial boulevard to the north. The low ceilings and original layout with three small bedrooms intensified the narrow proportions and the sense of enclosure. Moreover, iron window grilles and fixed AC units obstructed the openings, severely compromising natural light and ventilation.

OMA's Metropolitan Village, also known as Taipei Xinyi–Wenchang Residence, is a new high-rise residential tower located in Taipei's Xinyi Central Business District. The project, led by David Gianotten and Chiaju Lin, with HCCH & Associates Architects Planners & Engineers as local collaborator, provides 11,961 m² of residential floor area on a 736 m² site. The 95 m, 23-storey building follows the concept of a "vertical village," reflecting the increasingly fluid boundary between living and working identified by the architects in post-pandemic Taipei. Commissioned by Continental Development Corporation, the project broke ground in 2024 and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
The North Gate of Taipei, also known as Beimen, stands not only as a reminder of the city's complex history but also as a witness to the changing urban landscape around it, and its shifting attitudes towards the urban spaces bordering heritage buildings. Initially a Chinese imperial frontier, spared from demolition during the Japanese colonial dominion, crowded by overpasses and highways in the postwar modernization efforts, it has recently regained its prominent status through the development of the plaza that now frames it. The gate's resilience through shifting urban priorities and architectural policies tells a story of heritage preservation not only through the built form, but also through the open spaces framing it.

Echo Villa is nestled on the mid-mountainside of Taiwan, where the architecture flows naturally with the terrain, bringing the rhythm of the hills into both the structure and interior. Inspired by the homeowner's longing for a life close to nature, the design centers around the concept of "Echoes of the Earth." Mountain lines are echoed through window frames, landscape language is translated into architectural elements, and soft curves define staircases, furniture, and circulation, creating a seamless spatial fluidity. The residence adopts a palette of sandy earth tones, highlighted by a nine-meter-high foyer and custom-blown glass lighting that evokes the feeling of mist rising through the mountains.

In most situations, architects navigate a complex web of construction codes, airspace regulations, and numerous other rules that dictate the form and execution of a project. However, cultural architecture often presents a unique opportunity for more daring and expressive designs. These projects frequently garner support from local governments, unlocking possibilities for formal explorations that might otherwise remain unrealized. In this regard, cultural architecture serves a dual purpose: enriching the community and establishing iconic landmarks that define the identity of their city or region. This ambition has certainly manifested in Taiwan. Situated in the heart of East Asia, this island nation boasts a remarkable array of formal explorations by both international and Taiwanese architects.

Sheltered by the mature street trees adjacent to the property, the old residence stands as a rare sanctuary within the dense urban jungle. Yet, this natural advantage also concealed an underlying issue: due to the constant shading from the trees, parts of the garden suffered from insufficient sunlight, resulting in sparse and struggling vegetation. Additionally, the original layout, which featured only a single entry point, presented a functional drawback—visitors had to pass through the elder resident's private living area, disrupting their daily life. Consequently, reconfiguring the circulation system became a key aspect of the renovation.

Despite its small size, the island of Taiwan is densely populated, with more than 80% of its people living in urban areas. Therefore, designers face the ongoing challenge of creating interiors that feel spacious, functional, and visually appealing despite their sometimes compact footprints.
Blending Neighborhood Culture and Urban Scenery: A Fusion of Old and New Culinary Experiences – Peckish, the new bakery and dining brand under Ivette Cafe, continues its mission of promoting culinary culture by bringing a fresh, humanistic experience into the community. Situated in the context of the Minsheng neighborhood, the building's original façade has been preserved, resonating with its mosaic-patterned arched exterior. Using everyday materials such as cement and red bricks, the space narrates a timeless story. The interplay of steps and walls creates a dynamic layered façade that seamlessly integrates into the local atmosphere.
