A Design Rooted in Experience – Blending Digital and Physical Spaces - In a world where online shopping dominates, physical spaces must go beyond simple transactions and create immersive experiences. Aimer Suzhou headquarters embraces this shift, offering an environment that fosters deep brand interaction and connects with people on a human level. "In designing Aimer Suzhou headquarters, we sought to create a building that reflects both the brand's identity and the evolving nature of commercial spaces. Flowing forms, layered transparency, and multifunctional spaces turn architecture into an extension of the brand itself," says Binke Lenhardt, co-founder of Crossboundaries.

Water has always occupied a unique position in architecture: elemental yet elusive, functional yet symbolic. It is both a material and a medium that shapes cities, structures rituals, and influences how space is perceived. Across cultures, water is understood not only as a source of life but as a carrier of meaning, associated with purification, renewal, and continuity. Its presence in the built environment often extends beyond utility, becoming a device through which architecture engages the senses and constructs atmosphere.

Originally a flat agricultural field, the site is divided into two parts—wider to the north and narrower to the south, roughly forming a right-angled trapezoid—by an east–west watercourse. The surrounding area consists of existing mid-rise residential neighborhoods and plots designated for future housing development.

Block Kindergarten is located east of Hongqi Road and north of Zhenchuan Road in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. The campus occupies approximately 1.01 hectares with a total floor area of about 8,600 square meters and is planned as a 21-class kindergarten. The site is surrounded by a complex urban context. High-rise residential towers stand to the north, with additional housing planned to the east. To the south lie several municipal facilities, including a 110kV substation, a waste transfer station, and an emergency medical center. These conditions present both spatial and psychological challenges: tall residential buildings create a sense of enclosure, while the municipal infrastructure introduces visual and environmental disturbance.

Wujiang Wedding Hall is located on the northern side of the Chuihong Scenic Area in Wujiang District, Suzhou. Its cultural roots could be traced back to the Chuihong Bridge, originally built during the Northern Song Dynasty. Over the course of a millennium, the site has accumulated a series of significant cultural landmarks, including the ruins of Chuihong Bridge, Huayan Pagoda, and the Ji Cheng Memorial Hall. Together, these elements form a historic landscape shaped by the convergence of Taihu Lake and the Grand Canal, bearing witness to the layered transformations of Wujiang's urban and cultural history. The original project site consisted of a two-story cafe and a gateball court located at the intersection of two streets, which had been vacant for many years. The renovation preserves the existing structural framework while introducing new functions such as a marriage registration office, community-oriented commercial spaces, and public activity areas. Through this transformation, the project seeks to weave together historical context and contemporary urban life.

The renovated Building No. 5 has now been transformed into a versatile theater, seamlessly integrating Suzhou-style stage performances with medium-sized conferences. In architectural renovation, the common approaches typically fall into two categories: completely redesigning parts of the structure or preserving its original form as much as possible. Wutopia Lab seeks to break free from this binary and explore a new path. Inspired by the dramatic life of Tang Bohu, we go beyond merely preserving the historical depth of the old building—we breathe new artistic life into it.

Suzhou, as a city, has distinctive regional architectural characteristics. We abstracted three key elements from traditional garden architecture—"pavilions," "corridors," and "views"—and sought to combine these elements with the inherent attributes of the original building. The lower floor of the original structure contained a row of hidden columned corridors, which were downplayed in the 2012 renovation, and the facades were enclosed with glass curtain walls, thereby clearly separating the interior and exterior spaces.
