Svatman (स्वात्मन्)—literally, to be immersed within oneself—is conceived as a retreat that turns inward even as it remains deeply rooted in its landscape. Set within the undulating terrain of Shoolagiri, where rocky ground and dry vegetation define the horizon, the house resists the urge to announce itself. Instead, it settles quietly into a fertile mango belt, allowing the rhythms of cultivation and seasonality to shape its presence.

Located within the farm community of Sanctity Ferme in Shoolagiri, Kṛpānilaya is set amidst a terrain of rolling hills, where the land undulates gently, and vegetation settles in pockets across the contours. The region is defined by a hot, dry climate, with temperatures soaring up to 45°C during peak summers—demanding an architecture that is not applied onto the site, but one that emerges from an understanding of heat, light, and air as primary design determinants.

Nestled amidst the lush greenery, tranquil blues, and unpretentious quarry town of Shoolagiri, lies a humble abode meticulously crafted amidst the verdant expanse of mint and mango farms. The aromatic mints extend a warm welcome, gradually revealing the dwelling with a backdrop of a luxuriant canopy of mango trees. Existing trees on site, along with a deliberately designed blank wall, navigate their visitors toward the entrance located at the northeastern corner. This design element encourages a sensory journey before entering the premises, offering glimpses of the abode and evoking olfactory memories associated with the mango trees.

The Boulder Farmhouse: A Mud Haven in the Hills of Shoolagiri - Nestled amidst the landscapes of Shoolagiri, in a laidback village, lies a property that is a testament to sustainable living and architectural ingenuity. This site, deep in elephant country, presents a unique canvas for an architectural endeavor that is respectful of its environment. This three-quarter acre of land is surrounded by boulders and plantations that slope towards a water catchment area. This little sanctuary away from the bustling city of Bangalore is planned over a footprint of 2400 sq ft, snugly between boulders towards the North and South, opening towards a fruit plantation on the east. As the story goes, the name 'Boulder House' wasn't just a stroke of architectural branding but a nod to the very essence of its surroundings. It was as if the land itself had a say in the matter, with its majestic boulders and rugged terrain inspiring not just the design but also the moniker. Drawing upon the vernacular architecture, the design meticulously incorporates mud, stone, wood, and clay - materials that have been the cornerstone of construction in this region for generations.

Chuzhi is a project that helps to understand what can be built in odd sites that are generally deemed ‘unsuitable’ for construction. Situated in a gated community called Sanctity Ferme in a picturesque location called Shoolagiri, the owner was in a fix as there were unwanted obscure plots at the periphery of the community characterized by steep rocky topography, huge trees, and thick vegetation making people reluctant to make homes there as the buildable area seemed less.
