In the winter of 2023, Moguang Studio was commissioned to design a public facility for a planned guesthouse district in Longwanggou Village, Shiyan, Hubei. The program integrates light dining, a café, kitchen, and meeting functions. The site, adjacent to the Danjiangkou Reservoir, had already been leveled into artificial terraces and parking lots, erasing its original continuity with the valley and rice paddies.

Wufu Shanshui Dragon Family Banquet Restaurant is located in Longjing Village, Baofeng Town, Zhushan County, Hubei Province. As the head node of Wufu Longjing Smart Agricultural Innovation Park, the owner hopes to have a characteristic catering space, which can make it convenient for amusement, research and villagers to enjoy food here. The project is also close to the spiritual place of Longjing Village---- the ancient tree Longjing Square, and the owner hopes that the new buildings and places can be associated with it and form a certain fit between the visual and moving lines.

Four years ago, a gentleman who opened a factory in Dongguan contacted our office via email and said that there was a plot of land in his hometown, Xunxi County, Shiyan. He wanted to build a house and asked me to help him design it. After a detailed discussion, I learned that the local transportation was inconvenient, and the transportation of building materials was very difficult. In addition, the surrounding population was sparse, so the labor cost was relatively high. Moreover, at that time, I was working in Tokyo and it was impossible to stay in Xunxi County for a long time. This series of difficulties made me want to push out this design at one point, but after seeing the site, I decided to proceed for one reason only: the cliff.

Wufu Longjing Agricultural Products Exhibition Center / Describing Architecture Studio

The Wufu Longjing Agricultural Products Exhibition Center is located in the Wufu Longjing Smart Agricultural Creation Park, Baofeng Town, Zhushan County. This project is one of the key projects for Zhushan County to build a “billion-yuan agricultural processing industry.” It relies on 1,200 acres of land connected to Longjing Village and Hanxihe Village in Baofeng Town to build the Agricultural Smart Park, Agricultural Cultivation Park, and Agricultural Research Park. It aims to create an ecological demonstration base for agricultural tourism integration that integrates “smart agriculture, agricultural experience, education and research, leisure tourism, and catering and entertainment”. The goal is to effectively promote rural revitalization, stimulate regional economic development, and drive more than 1,000 households of villagers in the surrounding areas to achieve stable income growth. The Agricultural Products Exhibition Center is located at the entrance of the park, which is the starting point of the entire park. It needs to accommodate the gathering of visitors, tourists, and researchers. At the same time, it also serves as a window for displaying and selling agricultural products.

In Longba Town, Zhuxi County, a new municipal road "Changlong Avenue" crosses the main entrance of the original town with a 30-degree cutting angle. The triangular plot between the new municipal road and the main road of the original town is the site of Strawberry farm activity hall and picking greenhouse. The Longba town government hopes to take cultivation, picking, and related experience activities of strawberries as the new starting point of the rural economy in Longba Town, and form the entry point of rural vitality at the intersection of old and new roads.

Origin. Wudang Mountain Tourism Economic Zone in Shiyan City has been actively promoting B&B business and improving the surrounding environment of the scenic area. Yuanheguan Village is close to the entrance of the Wudang Mountain Scenic Area, and therefore was selected as a prioritized place for a pilot programme. According to the plan, the plot where the original village committee office was situated and its surroundings will be transformed into a B&B reception demonstration area, so it was very urgent to relocate and construct a new village committee office. To guarantee services for the villagers, it was essential to figure out how to build it in a short time.

Longba Town is composed by 19 villages, which do not possess a decent market. Groceries are locate along the the town's only main road, and livestock are often slaughtered in the streets, spilling blood on the ground directly. Face such a situation, the government has set aside a small plot of vegetable land to build a market of about 2,500 square meters, which provides a high-quality shopping environment for residents, as well as hosts the annually festival and other activities. Therefore, it is not only a daily market serving the town, but also a festive place radiating the whole county. It should be convenient and comfortable, and also, it needs to have certain publicity.
